PLAY & DRAMATHERAPY
How can Play & Dramatherapy help young people with autism and neurodiversity?
Play and Dramatherapy are therapeutic approaches that utilise the natural human tendencies for play and storytelling to facilitate emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Playtherapy is centered around the concept that play is a child’s language, offering a non-verbal avenue to express, explore, and process complex feelings and thoughts. It employs creative tools like art, puppets, and games to help individuals project and symbolise their inner experiences, fostering self-esteem, coping skills, and resilience in a non-judgmental space.
Dramatherapy, on the other hand, engages individuals through the creative arts, role play, and improvisation, tapping into the capacity for expression and play. Suitable for all ages and backgrounds, it encourages self-exploration and interpersonal connections. Dramatherapy aids in developing self-awareness, emotional regulation, and communication skills, providing a unique experiential means to navigate emotions, reshape narratives, and promote personal growth.
